Swim Lessons

I know I don't think correctly on this, but I sign the kids up for swim lessons in the fall/winter/beginning of spring and cancel in the summer. Silly of me really since they swim more in the summer, but I just feel silly paying for swim lessons while they are swimming all summer? I don't think anyone else can understand my thoughts, but the only one who matters if they understand my thoughts is me so this is how we roll in the swimming world! If they couldn't swim or were having difficulty I would keep them in year round, but they are doing great!

Splash Pad

The park close to Papaw's house got a grant and put in a fancy splash pad. The kids love to play in the water, run to the "fort" play structure, swing, teeter totter, and go on the merry go round. I used to love the merry go round, and just realized our kids hadn't been on one in NE. The park in our neighborhood doesn't have a merry go round, so sad because they love to go fast! Grandma Debbie took the kids to the splash pad every evening and I can't thank her enough for all her help. The kids loved playing with her!

Pool Side

We took Bryson to the pool for the first time. No surprise that he loved splashing in the water. He loves splashing and taking a bath!
Ellery played so hard that she wanted to be covered up and rest in the chairs. She is my snuggler!
Mason only took the mandatory breaks that the pool makes one take! He also went down the slides all by himself. It was going great until he got caught in the current and then he was done with that excitement, for now!

Swim Lessons

Since we still have to put on these life vests while swimming, we decided to start swim lessons for these goggle loving kids. I hope they learn enough before summer hits so we don't have to lug these vests to the pool. Plus if Mason learns to swim he will be able to go down the slides!

Swim Lessons

Mason completed his first swim lesson with instructor Mark and 3 other children and did great. They worked on floating on their backs, holding their breath so they can go under water, and of course kick kick kick. I thought he would be reserved and have to warm up to the idea, but I was wrong. He jumped right in and tried everything that was asked of him.

Swim Little Fishies

We took the kids over to Grandma Ellen's pool and let them swim. I expected Ellery to cling to me more or watch from the edge of the pool, but she wanted to jump in and swim just as much as Mason. They both love the water, what a surprise. I am not sure what the 3rd kid will get, but when Mason was a baby we took him to swim classes. We haven't taken Ellery to any classes so I guess it can't get worse for the 3rd. It did make me realize I need to get Mason into swimming lessons before summer hits.

Pool Time

Mason loves playing in the water, while Ellery is more interested in having a snack pool side and then up for a swim, maybe.

Swimming

We took Mason and Ellery to the pool this afternoon and they had a wonderful time. Ellery is more interested in getting snacks and sitting pool side rather than getting in the pool. Rob scooped her up and took her in to let her play a bit and she wasn't that excited about it, but sghe did better than last time he took her in. He also took her down the slide that Mason went down multiple times. Mason enjoyed it a bit more than she did. In her defense, the water was a bit cooler today and I don't think she cared for that.

First Swimming Experience

Our neighbors invited us over for an afternoon swim today.
I just want it to be known she has a smile on her face and wanted to play in the water. It was a different tune once she got in the water, she wasn't thrilled at all and wouldn't calm down enough to ever enjoy it. Mason was his usual slow to warm up to the idea, but then had a great time swimming and playing in the water. Didn't want to get his head or face wet yet, but give him time.

Playing in the Pool

Last week in swimming lessons Mason put his head under the water for the first time himself. We were playing in the swimming pool at the house and he did it as well. He takes a few minutes to warm up to new things, but once he gets comfortable he is off and having a great time. He splashed and jumped around and even attempted to float on his back. Ellery hung out in her bumbo in the shade while the rest of us got a little sun.

Ellery left behind

Mason is back in swim lessons and Rob was busy working the other day so I was able to go with Mason. That meant we had to leave Ellery with a babysitter. I left Ellery with Nadina the 12 year old girl who lives across the street. I think she is still a little young but it was only for an hour and she really enjoyed holding and playing with her. Every time we are outside playing Nadina comes over to play with Mason or hold Ellery for a bit. We also went to music in the park last night and Nadina and her family came over to say Hello. They then held Ellery for the rest of the night.
Mason is doing great in swimming lessons. He will float on his back with a lot of encouragement and isn't afraid at all. They have us take the kids to the side of the pool and make them climb out and then they are supposed to sit down on the side and lean forward back into the water. Mason climbs out like a champ, but he doesn't want to sit to get back in, he wants to stand and jump back in.

Swimming Class

Mason's swim class had an open house last night and Ellery and I went to watch what Mason and Rob had been doing the past 5 weeks. Rob said this was the first week he didn't cry and got right in. I contribute it to my presence. They sang multiple songs, played games, blew bubbles, used a kick board, and jumped off the side. It was enjoyable to watch him and Rob interact in the pool. Mason really enjoys putting his face in the water and blowing bubbles. He made my day, I was up in the viewing area above the pool and every so often he would look up at me and yell mommy! Could be that his dad was prompting him to do it, but any way it was a great feeling.
