Millard Days Parade 2011

We hit the Millard Day Parade again this year. We were a bit late because we had soccer, but the kids were more into getting the candy this year than the years past. The problem was that it was so hot the tootsie rolls were melting so they couldn't sneak a piece. Bryson was sacked out through the whole process, which amazes me the most when the marching bands come through!

Where is Bryson

Bryson loves playing on the chalk wall and when he leaves the wall he leaves hand prints. Ellery says they are leprechaun prints. We can follow the prints and find him pilfering through a kitchen cabinet or something else he isn't supposed to be playing with!

Long Lost Family

I finally met my 2nd cousin once removed from Germany. He came to town to see his Grandma and my Great Grandma Gray. It was fun catching up and I hope we can make a trip to Germany to meet the rest of his family sometime in the near future!!Rob thought he was funny when I sent him out to to the store for salad and he came back with two blends. The European blend of course for our company!
We also had a small reception at Grandma Gray's. We have a funny love for cake in this family and corner pieces are a hot commodity. We always have jokes on who gets them and this time I put every one's initials on it so they actually could claim what is rightfully theirs!

Harvest Time

The garden is producing this year. The bunnies and bugs ate all of my green beans, peas, and broccoli. We do have kale, egg plant, peppers, tomatoes, and green peppers. We have mini sweet baby girl tomatoes and you can pop them like candy. We have also been making jalapeno poppers on a regular basis. Sad thing about these egg plants are they will be the only ones this season, the wind snapped my plant.

Leaking Bed

Ellery is a funny girl.

Her bed has some spots on it from a wound she encountered on a walk. She doesn't realize this is where the spots came from. She informed me today that her bed was "leaking".

Bryson 13 Months

Where to start. Bryson isn't walking without assistance, he will take a few steps, but nothing spectacular. He is a cruiser on the furniture and into whatever the other two are doing. He has a fond relationship with the stairs and loves crawling up and down them. He is learning to put his feet out first to dismount anything that he has climbed. He does enjoy climbing things more than my others did. He remains a picky eater. Not a huge fan of fruits and veggies, he likes to throw his food! Errrrr On the flip side he will eat casserole like items and meat? Things you think he is never going to eat this he loves for example: salmon cakes, egg rolls, corn casserole, taco meat. He also will eat an avocado mushed up, but won't touch the chunks? He also LOVES his bottles, we thought we were saying good bye and we have given up all of them except with meals, but this kid loves them? We will see how he is in another month, I won't panic yet. He remains a great sleeper at night, but afternoon naps are hit or miss. Poor thing is taken every where and plucked up from naps frequently because of our busy schedules. His favorite toy remains a ball. He also likes to find any tiny item and carry it around in his hand and then crawls around like a gorilla holding it. His favorite items to pocket in his hands are barbie shoes and legos. He doesn't eat them, just carries them around. He loves books like his sister and loves his family. Like Rob always says, he just wants to be a part of everything. As long as someone is close around he will play and be content, but alone he doesn't know what to do!

The Daisies and the Titans

We are enjoying some fall soccer. Mason is on team Titan and Ellery is on team Daisy. They both are enjoying the sport and making Rob proud!

Roller Derby

While we were at the festival, the roller derby group was walking around. They were pouring beer samples in the cute little glasses, so we had to get two for the kids to use! Poor Rob, I made him pose for a cute picture and I off centered him just so I could include the girls. I didn't tell anyone what I was doing, I think those girls could take me. That is why I will never join the roller derby league. 1. I couldn't pull off the outfit and 2. the girls could easily beat me up! I do think Rob is cute along with the tiny glasses!

Wine Festival Date Night

Rob and I went out on date night to a Riverfront Wine Festival. Well, since we have had all the flooding the party wasn't on the riverfront, but it was still in the name. We had a great time! Not only did I remember the camera, but I remembered to take a picture of us together!

Kindergaren Fun

Mason is loving school and life until about 7pm every day.

He asked Rob if: "Is kindergarten all day long every day?"
His favorite part of the day is: "I like all of it!"
If you make him choose a favorite: "Lunch is my favorite part of the day!" We are making him eat cafeteria food aka hot lunch for the first month and then we will let him choose either a hot lunch or a cold lunch aka food from home.
He is now coming home and stating things that Mrs. Farley said and showing us what she taught him or told him. Example: He now has 3 waves, the regular wave, the grandma wave, and a farmer wave.
We also have altered bedtime. He requested to go to bed early one night so we went to bed at 7:45. Day 5 he told me he wanted to go to bed at 6:00. I told him we were a little late for 6pm and he told me that we weren't late for 6:00 and told me the time. It was 6:26, so in his mind it is still 6:00. He was really tired so he went to bed at 6:53. I checked on him at 6:57 and he was out cold! The exhaustion is starting to wear on him, he is more tearful than normal. Other than the exhaustion, he is doing great and loving everything school has to offer!

So Big

Oh, Bryson is getting to be so big! When do they grow? I am with them all day and don't notice they have grown. Maybe if I called one of the discovery channels, they could put a camera on him at all times, slow it down and then we could actually watch the process happen! That is a great idea for the next reality or documentary series! I would watch in awe!

School Paperwork

These are the first papers that came home with Mason from school. He loves cutting and pasting. Let me just say, those smiling faces aren't ever going to fall off the paper. He also drew a picture of himself on a surf board! Surf's Up! He also has spanish class at school and comes home speaking random words. I now have to tell him Buenos Noches every night when I tuck him in!

Home Improvements

Safety is important in our household!
Oh, we have been busy with some home improvement projects this summer/fall! Just to name a few:
Garage Doors
Storm Doors
Landscaping
Hardware Changes
Dishwasher
Landscaping
Painting
We have more help than needed, but not the help that is needed. It is tricky getting things done with 3 kids 5 and under!

Hair Extensions

At one of the many birthday parties we attended in one week, Ellery became a proud new owner of some pink, green, and purple braided hair clips/extensions. We wear them daily with a smile!

Allergy Testing

We had our yearly allergy appointments last week with Dr. Nelson. Dr. Nelson is fantastic, I didn't even ask him to hold Bryson, he just scooped him up when he came into the room. Then when he came back Bryson went over to him and put his arms up to be picked up!
Mason's peanut numbers remain in the 7's, we still have a chance to outgrow the peanut allergy, but the outlook isn't looking so good! He will be sitting at the peanut free table at school. On the plus side Bryson's milk numbers came back in the norm, but the highest normal possible. We went ahead and did a skin test and that came back normal as well, so then we scheduled an appointment for tolerance testing. We came back a week later for some tolerance testing of real milk and passed with flying colors. We now have the green light to start giving him milk if nothing drastic happens within the next 24 hours! Yeah, he will be able to have pizza, yogurt, cheese, and casserole dishes with milk and cheese now! Wish us luck!

2006 Wine

A friend of mine gave us the idea to buy a case of wine from the year Mason was born. In hindsight I wish I would have done it for the year we got married. We took her advice and finally cracked a bottle open to celebrate Masons first day of school. Don't worry we don't plan on sharing with the kids anytime soon!

How was school

Rob captured this when we picked Mason up from his first day of all day school! It is a little blurry, but it just might be my favorite picture of all time! I think his picture captured how Mason's first day went.

First Day of Kindergarten

First Day of Kindergarten
Ok, the thing I will remember most about Mason's first day of school is that it is the first day I have ever had to wake him up. I was getting anxious when he wasn't awake before 7am. The kid has gotten up before 7am 99.9% of his life. I can count on 1 hand how many times he has slept past 7am in the last year and I have never had to wake him up for anything! I woke him up at 7:06 and the adventure began!
He is such a poser these days.
I don't think Mason had any real anxiety going to school. He was very excited, but I didn't pick up any apprehension or uneasiness in our talks about school. I felt all of those emotions, but kept them in check, but I am now beginning to think Mason wouldn't have noticed if I wouldn't have kept my feelings under control.
A very proud dad and his son!
I will save my feelings of anxiety for another post, but Rob happened to capture them on camera! The sheer joy of parenting!

Super Heros

Super Hero's? I am amazed at what Mason and his friends love to play and dress up as. They don't give themselves super hero names, they are either good or bad guys. It appears the requirements for being a good or bad super hero is head protection, a cape, and something in hand even if it is a cat toy!

Open House

I guess we can't call it back to school mode because we are just now embarking upon our school experience. What an experience it is going to be! We had open house at Spring Ridge Elementary tonight! We learned that Mason will be in a class of 24 students, I think that is big, but another time another post on that one. We got to bring in all our school supplies, find out where he will be sitting, and meet his teacher. They don't have individual desks in kindergarten, just 6 kids to a table. I remember sitting at tables in kindergarten as well. Mason will be spending his time away from the family with Mrs. Farley. She is every one's top pick, the school has 2 other kindergarten teachers and everyone raves over Mrs. Farley the most. It was an emotional night, well maybe not so emotional for Mason, but it was emotional for me! I think the school transition will be harder on mom! The thought of someone else spending most of his day with him other than his family is a tough thought for me. Not to mention he is a young 5 and all the literature says I won't know if I made the right decision until around 4th grade. Seriously, why do they print these things for parents. I might have to learn how to get a grant and do a study that will tell us the results after kindergarten! I'll just add that to my running to do list!

The Perch

Bryson is starting to climb up on everything. He particularly likes the hearth on the fireplace. We call it his perch, yup we compare our child to a bird on a perch. He pulls toys up, he pushes them off, he crawls back and forth like a cat on a tin roof, he get down appropriately, and of course he falls off. None of it keeps him from getting back on his perch and doing it all over again!

Wine and Balloon Festival 2011

Bryson didn't sleep through the festival this year! He was in awe watching the balloons launch and glow! He was also into anything and everything that he could find. I know he ate some dirt along with crackers, grapes, and popcorn. I think he was trying to make some wine with his grapes the way he was squishing them. You win some and you lose some.
The festival had a kids area to play in and I told Ellery if she didn't go down the slides or ride the ponies, I would buy her an inflatable hot air balloon. She took my deal, thank goodness, the lines were long and I didn't feel like trying for super parent status. The lines were also super long in tasting, but we were smarter this year and brought a bottle to enjoy while watching the hot air balloons!

Water Slide Fun

I was exchanging emails with a friend and she mentioned getting together to "water slide". I finally clarified on what water slide we were going to meet up at, I was thinking of leaving Bryson with a sitter if it was going to be a water park adventure. She sent me a picture of this monstrosity, that she has in her yard. We just had water day at our house and then go to a friends house for this water day! Thank goodness we did our water day prior to this one!

Water Day

We decided to have water day at the house again. Nothing like hooking up the old slip and slide and putting it at the bottom of our play structure slide. The kids love it. I need to go get myself a shepherds hook so I don't have to hold the hose or drench myself as I wrap it around the play structure to shoot down the slide. They also love jumping on the trampoline with water spraying everywhere!

14, 15, 21

We don't work with Ellery like we did Mason, we just assume she is picking up what we are teaching him. Clearly we need to work with her a bit more.

Sleeping LEGOS

As we are eating breakfast and I want to talk to everyone at the table.
Ellery: Shhhhh mom, the Lego people are sleeping and cold.

Dress Up

Not much to explain here. Surprise surprise, Ellery loves dressing up. She does have a strong desire for the Belle costume. I think she likes it because I don't buy her anything yellow.

5 Parties in 7 Days

Oh me oh my, we have had 5 parties in 7 days! Pros and cons having two kids 19 months apart! If my kids eat any more cake I think they will explode. Some parties served cake and ice cream, while others served cupcakes. Ellery loved licking the ice cream and frosting off her plate, and adapted to treating cup cakes like ice cream cones. Lick the ice cream off first and then maybe or maybe not eat the cake aka cone part! Mason just devoured his cake as fast as possible so he could continue on in the celebration!
Mason's buddy Sam turned 5 and he had a "real" pinata at his party. The kids had a blast swinging into the air and attempting to beat something with a bat! Ellery didn't want to try, but Mason took his turn and hers!
Ellery put more coins into riding this butterfly, we probably paid for it. She refused to get out and spent most of her time at the party riding the butterfly.
I have memories going to Chuckie Cheese as a kid and in some ways it has changed and other ways it is still the same. This one was not as dark as I remember it being as a kid.
No celebration is complete without bouncing! I love how it wears the kids out!
The biggest mistake made while attending all of these parties was at Amazing Pizza Machine. Picture Chuckie Cheese on every drug imaginable...They don't use coins to operate their toys, you swipe a prepaid card that looks like a debit or credit card. Each child received a card at this party. I was a few steps behind the kids because I was tending to Bryson and Mason has swiped his card and was operating the infamous "claw". If you are a toy story fan you will understand the draw to the claw! What do you know he wins on the first try. Not the reward I was looking for. Of course Ellery wants to try and she ends up winning on her first time, except the claw dropped it behind the drop area where the claw can't even reach. Tears didn't start because we went for it again and again and again. FINALLY after 5 tries we won her a bear. They carried these prized stuffed animals around like they were the best stuffed animals ever received!

Not pictured is a bowling party, how I didn't get any pictures at that party is beyond me????
