Papaw and his Grandkids

The power wheel chair is always a hit!

Nothing warms my heart more than watching my kids with my dad! Precious, sweet, and memories that will last a lifetime!! I know they wear him out while we visit, but we all have a great time!
The highlight of the trip for me was learning how to play cribbage. My dad had enough patience to teach me and I had enough patience to learn! Some things can change and now we can say we do have more patience than Grandma Debbie and Rob give us credit for! It is a really fun game and every free moment we found Papaw and I would play. Thank goodness we didn't keep track because I think he might have won, but no one was counting! Right?
A vist to see the Wertz Family

Cori with Bryson!
It is funny to see her with my kids, I remember her when she was as small as all three of my kids and watching her experience each stage with them while I went through the stages with her is a neat thing to watch!
Roni can make anyone smile! It just took Bryson a little longer than most!
I know the Wertz family gets tired of BBQ, but we are so happy they have it with us when we visit! It is soooooo yummy! She also made beenie weenies wrapped in crescent rolls and my kids couldn't get enough of them! It is always fun to catch up with the Wertz family. They have NE roots, if only they would come visit us!
More Presents
Everyone enjoyed opening presents. Ellery gave the classic, look it's a box response to some openings and was excited to get the box. They are spoiled with love from Papaw and Grandma Debbie, but it doesn't stop at just love. Christmas was a fun time for everyone!Thursday, December 29, 2011
On The Road Again
We are on the road again and heading to Papaws. It is sweet being on the road with these sounds coming from the back!!!

Kicked to the Curb
Double is becoming "not needed". I think this upsets Rob and I more than Mason. He has been MIA for two days and it hasn't phased Mason or affected him at all. Is his precious sleep comapnion not needed anymore?
Update: Double has been found and his sleep space in bed every night with Mason has been restored!

Bryson 17 Month
Oh where do I start with this little man. He is starting to say dada and mama more regularly. Bonus. But, he has sister down so it doesn't seem as special. He is starting to run and actually keep up with himself. He doesn't play with baby toys at all. I could get rid of all of them, but it makes me sad. I will bring me joy to give them to others, but I am not ready for that yet. I am starting a pile of everything we don't need or use anymore and it is growing into a big pile. He is terrible at crying for what he wants. Something we need to work on with him. He is still not the best at sharing, but he is starting to play with Ellery better. His independence is a lot stronger than the other two. I think it comes with being the last one and trying to survive and prove that he is a big boy. Not to mention watching what others get to do and wanting to to it regardless if it is an impossible task. He will cry and throw a fit unless you let him try. Doesn't matter if he fails, no more tears, just likes to try! Other times we just get the tears because we don't let him try. He is very interested in the bathroom. So interested that I pulled out the potty chair. We aren't working with him, but I think he just likes to have a place to sit while I go to the bathroom. He is going to need a lot of lessons on privacy. I don't think I will know what to do with myself when I can go to the bathroom alone! He is my constant companion. So much that I call him my accessory! Where mommy goes, goes Bryson and he is quite the little helper, most days!
To the Zoo
We decided to have our picnic in the cat complex. We learned that the cats eat 50 lbs of meat in captivity and 100 lbs when in the wild. We thought it was funny to discuss over lunch that the cat would eat one Mason, or 1 Ellery and 1 Bryson, or 1 Parker and 1 Bryson and on and on we went. We then were pleasantly surprised or in Ellery and Parker's case not so pleasantly surprised when the cat jumped up and put it paws up on the window ledge. It then would look around like it was deciding which one would be the best to go after, then he would walk down the window with his paws up on the ledge and keep eyeing us as if we were good treats, and then off he would go. I am not sure I will ever eat there again? It is way cool that we can get this close to the animals, but I am not so sure I like only a thick pane of glass between my children and a beast! I realize I would only have to be faster than one other person, but I don't know if I could outrun them while holding three children!
The Stockings Were Hung

Oh, how much they grow and change in a year!
Last year they lovingly held still for the photo. This year I was lucky to catch this one. They were more interested in having stocking races! Even Bryson figured out how to run walk in the stocking!

Poor DC
She isn't lacking for love, that is for sure. I am not sure if I understand her anymore? She could run from the kids, but I don't know if she is that desperate or just too exhausted. She is old, but she lets Ellery carry her around and pet her. I found DC in Ellery's room the other day cuddling with her. Bryson isn't so sweet, he pulls her hair and tail. I did hear Ellery telling Bryson the other day to be nice because she will bite you if you aren't. I think Ellery is talking from experience, every time I see her with DC, DC is surprising loving and nice. I think the claws or the teeth might come out when I am not around to monitor the "extra" love!
Mason isn't that fond of her, but when everyone else gives her attention he joins in as well!

Merry Christmas
Everything is Merry for us this Christmas!

Mason was requesting the Cars 2 lego and it was delivered.

Ellery didn't get her Barbie car, but she did get her barbie house with an elevator!
Bryson got a sock monkey and a toy noise maker guitar!

Christmas Eve
We let the kids open one gift on Christmas Eve and I controlled what they opened and of course it was games. We spent the evening playing games and having fun. Mason is really good at playing connect four! Ellery really enjoyed playing pop n hop, a game just like trouble! My kids have no mercy and are showing some competitiveness early on, hmmmm I wonder where that comes from?! Bryson enjoyed carrying the small parts around!

Another Visit with Santa
Since I wasn't able to capture the best picture with Santa I went on a quest to get one. I am not sure this one is it, but I am more pleased. Poor Bryson has hated every Santa sitting!

Buddies

Mason and his friend Sam are-Buddies! These two are peas in a pod! We carpool with Sam and when I go to pick up you have no doubt who, what, and where they are. Even Ellery will shout out, I see them! Not a lot of kids wanting to wear Santa hats to school. Sam has a longer love affair with the Santa hat, I think he wore it from November to January last year. Mason just started his love relationship with the hat this year, I think because his buddy was rockin it so he wanted to see if he could pull it off as well! I think they both pull it off and rock it. This is by far my favorite picture of the two of them!

Manners
Manners, we need to work on manners in the Chaplin house. A friend stopped by and I was busy helping them with something real quick, but I wasn't quick enough. The version I got was that Bryson pulled Ellery's snack off the table and they fell all over the floor. Bryson didn't care and started eating them. Ellery was crying while Mason thought it was a good idea to add more to the pile, squish them, and then join in on eating off the floor.
After School Bowling
The trophy is a prized possession in our house.
I have to say I was impressed as well. They are really neat and something to be cherished for a bit.
It is engraved and says:
Spring Ridge After School 2011
Mason Chaplin
High Game-75
I am thinking about starting a wall of like they did in meet the fockers. This would be the first trophy to go up! I will hold off for now, but it is a serious consideration. For now it is in Mason's room and moved frequently so it in just the right spot for display.

Happy Birthday Rob
The Birthday Wizard Wishers are back again this year!
I asked the kids what we should write on Rob's cake and I didn't prompt them or give examples! Mason came up with "Happy Birthday Favorite Dad!" I couldn't resist him so I wrote it on the cake with squeezing help from the kids. They then had to put extra red and blue squiggles of frosting on the sides. We of course had the finger licking and "Accidental" squeezes on our fingers that we had to eat!
Everyone made Rob a card. I asked Ellery what to get Rob and she wanted to get him a new phone. This girl is after her dad's heart. He just got a new phone 4 months ago, but he probably already wants a new one. He didn't get one for his birthday. Mason wanted to buy him a robot lawn mower. He then wrote this card out. "I wanted to give you a robot, but I couldn't find one." I don't know how he didn't find one, he only asked me and I said I am not sure about that and he heard it as a no so he was done. We did however pick him out the harry potty night bus lego set and a polar bear pillow pet. Hmmmmm, the kids picked those out for him. I picked out night vision goggles that I found on the woot daily deal. Sure it says ages 8 and up on the box, but technically Rob qualifies. Anyways, they are comparable to a bigger set of binoculars that you can see with in the dark, but don't bring things closer. Everyone is having a fun time with them. We have even used them to check on the kids at night for fun, along with long play times in the dark bathroom. Can't complain here about this present!
Eat the cake at your own risk. Fingers were licked when we frosted it and I am sure some spit went on it with all the candle blowers!

All I want for Christmas
I hope I blogged Mason's stocking from pre-school.
Ellery's list is short and sweet. She wants a barbie house with an elevator. She forgot to mention that it had to have an elevator and she wants a barbie car she can drive. Santa only brings one gift in our house and a stocking. I think Santa is only going to deliver #2 and her parents aren't coming through on #1.

Find the Tiny Christmas Tree

We met Rob at work for lunch. He has been working so much we decided to stop by and say Hello. The kids really enjoy eating in the cafeteria! I think Rob secretly enjoys showing off his family! We are proud of him and all he does at work, but I think he gets excited to show his family off in the flesh and we certainly enjoy it as well! We did take the kids to the lobby and Rob told Mason he might have trouble finding the Christmas tree because it was so small. Mason was looking for such a small tree that he missed the big one. Rob had to stop him and point out the tree he was teasing Mason about! It wasn't small at all! A really really tall one!

Ugly Sweater Party
Do you know how hard it is to find an ugly Christmas sweater late in December? You can find them, but for more money than what I wanted to spend. I ended up going to Target and came across these matching t's for $5. Thank goodness my husband is a good sport and wore the reindeer antlers that I put with these beautiful t's.
It was his Transport work party, so I don't think he had a choice. We also did food that would stereotypically go with a party of this fashion. Rob was in charge of bringing cheap beer. The cutest things were that someone made sushi out a twinkie, fruit roll up, and topped with a swedish fish! Adorable. I was in heaven, I don't make the people puppy chow anymore because of the peanut butter, but it was at the party and I wanted to sit in the corner and eat the whole bowl! We also did white elephant gifts with a redneck flare. We found a shower curtain with the mud flap lady on it and it was a huge hit. The spouse of one of the nurses owns a party bus and he puts shower curtains up for some reason on the bus and he was now the proud owner of the curtain. He assured us it would be perfect for what he needed it for! We came home with the As seen on TV can toppers and a holiday Karma Sutra book. We usually congenitally leave behind our gifts and were able to put the can toppers on every one's bear, but we did make it out with our new reading materials! Oh the joys of life!

Cookies with Santa
Ellery's school had a cookies with Santa get together. I am going to have to start pre-screening Santa's! I am not a fan of the dressed up ones with a fake beard. We still got to make our yearly reindeer food at the event, and who doesn't love a cookie? It would appear Bryson doesn't, but don't let him fool you.

Cooking Class
I took the kids to our new grocery stores first cooking class. They requested the kids be 5 years old, but I asked if I could bring my 3 year old. I sensed some apprehensiveness from them, but I assured them she would be good and they would never know she was 3. Thank goodness she was her usual happy go lucky self. She was thrilled to be in class with Mason and Sam. This cooking class was what I expected a cooking class to be. Instead of having the kids stand in line and help stir, pour, turn on the mixer, etc they each got all the supplies at their spot in the table and followed the directions given. Happy kids and they loved making their food. They made chicken skewers, mini english muffin pizzas, and decorated a cookie. They then ate it all at the end of class. I didn't have to prepare a snack and we only needed a light dinner since they ate so much at cooking class!

Writing
I should get a video of Mason reading, but I never seem to have the camera during those times. He is starting to enjoy reading more, but what he really loves is writing. He is into writing about Ninjas? I think a group of friends at school play ninja at recess, and Mason is into writing books about them.
Ellery and Mason defeated the ninja and the ninja is "sad him"
