Mason Thoghts

Mason isn't as funny as Ellery, but he gets a few in.
Today he had a statement for me and he had given this one a lot of thought.
Mason: Mom, did you know even if your kids get taller than their parents, they are still the kids parents?
Poor Mason, he is tall for his age and it is hard for him and his friends to figure out that he is younger than they are but yet he is taller. Someone told him that taller=older and we have had to do some convincing him otherwise.

The other thing we are working on is that shoes don't make you faster. For some reason his green tie shoes make him run faster than his other shoes. 1. due to the shoes and 2. they are lighter than his other shoes making them able to run faster. No matter how I try to explain this one to him, he isn't catching on. We can't wear tie shoes on PE days because they make him run so fast that he can't stop himself before running into the wall?

Smells

Everytime we passed a feed yard while visiting my dad Ellery would chime out "Bryson pooped" or "Bryson stinks". We grew up with my dad telling us it was the smell of money, Ellery thinks otherwise!

Funny Faces or Normal Faces.........

This picture is for Uncle Todd and Aunt Jill!
Last Christmas my favorite pic was the funny faces my brother and I made! This one might be my favorite now!

Manners

Manners? What Manners?
Manners, we need to work on manners in the Chaplin house. A friend stopped by and I was busy helping them with something real quick, but I wasn't quick enough. The version I got was that Bryson pulled Ellery's snack off the table and they fell all over the floor. Bryson didn't care and started eating them. Ellery was crying while Mason thought it was a good idea to add more to the pile, squish them, and then join in on eating off the floor.

Hair Cut

I came home from getting my hair trimmed today and Mason asked me what number they used on me. Seems like a silly question, but when he gets his hair cut they use a #6 on the top and a #2 on the sides. I explained to him that they don't use numbers when cutting my hair, no clippers just scissors. He still looked confused, but I thought it was cute!

I know who Santa is

Mason came home from school and stated that he knew who Santa Clause was. We took the bait and asked him who. He stated that is was Ava's dad. We asked how he knew that and he was so convincing saying because she told me. We gave a pause waiting for more questions or for the light bulb to go off for him, but thank goodness he didn't ask anything. Rob looked at him and said, does her dad live at the north pole. Mason looked back at him and said he must and that is pretty darn cool and off he went to play with legos. We are not prepared for this conversation and will need to prepare for the future. Ellery won't be so easy to please. She will have the questions on how does he live at the north pole and live here? Where is his beard, and on and on she would go!

A "Real" Mom

As I am tucking Ellery into bed tonight she made a funny statement.
Ellery: Mom you look like a real mom.
Me: A real mom, do you know fake moms?
Ellery: Yes.....Grandmas

Shaken not Stirred

Start putting in your orders now, he appears to be taking them. I have no idea why we buy this kid toys? He prefers finding other "toys" to play with! Seriously, I came around the corner and found him just like this! No staging here! I don't think I could have thought to stage this. We do say he is our smartest and most independent one yet at this age???? We are preparing now, not sure what we are preparing for, but we think we need to prepare for something with him????

Never Been Kissed

I have never been kissed like this from my 5 year old. I think Rob and I are going to have to stop showing any type of PDA in front of Mason. This one caught on video is actually a PG version. The first time Mason asked to kiss me good night I was caught off guard by his debonair approach that I was almost french kissed by him. I am lucky I have quick reflexes and was able to pucker stronger.

Battery Car

We were driving down the street when an excited Mason yells from the back "Mom check out that cool battery car!" I look out to see the Red Bull car turning the corner. Being the great mom that I am I altered our route to follow the "battery car". I didn't correct them that it was an energy drink car, I just reinforced how cool the battery car did look!
On another funny note....Rob bought the kids chocolate shakes at McDonald's the other day or I should correctly say at "Old McDonald's". I was having a lazy day and decided to treat everyone to "Old McDonald's" and Mason asked if they had chocolate milk shakes at this one. I am embarrassed to say that I told him "No, Mason this Old McDonald's does not sell chocolate milk shakes." My faithful kid believed me without question.
Which leads me into my next deception. I have decided to tell my children when the ice cream van drives by and his music is playing it means that he is out of ice cream. Insert evil Muuuaaaahhhhhhh laugh! I think that is BRILLIANT! Wish me luck!!!!

Date Night Every Night

Mason had a playdate with a friend and his mom informed me that Mason told her that his parents have date night every night! I then had to tell her that he isn't all that far off in that statement. I told her about our stay-cation and we did go out almost every night! We even waited for the kids to be in bed to go out and didn't think they would notice, but oh how they noticed!
We had a great staycation and it is back to reality!

Love to Color

It isn't that uncommon to find our kids coloring in a coloring book or coloring/drawing pictures. While we were visiting family and they were having a family get together my kids were being quiet in the basement. I went to check on them to find them coloring. They were being sweet and drawing pictures. Mason informed me that he was drawing a picture of "God's rainbow." I can't help but smile and think, wow Rob and I must be doing something right until 10 min later. Mason came upstairs and joined back in the party scene. I can't help but ask to see his drawing of God's Rainbow only to find out "Mom, it isn't God's Rainbow anymore, I changed it to a fart machine."

Picture This One

Thank goodness I don't have a picture to share of this moment!
I have been carpooling with one of Mason's pre-K friends and today J was having troubles getting himself buckled into his seat. He would pull the seat belt out too far and then the auto lock would kick in and then he would either be stuck in his seat without actually buckling the seat belt. After he did this a few times I decided to quit talking him through how to fix it and fix it myself. I opened the back hatch so I could reach him easier rather than climbing into the back of the car. I had bought two huge bags of potting soil that I had stuffed in the back. Forgetting that if I opened it, it would probably shift and fall. I quickly closed the back hatch before it fell out and decided to crawl into the car. I was unaware that is closed back down, but didn't latch. We finally got everyone situated and safely buckled in and off we went. At the stop sign I looked into my mirror to say something to the kids and I noticed the back hatch is completely opened. I go back to close it and notice I am missing one bag of potting soil. I look back into the parking lot I left behind and see a lone bag in the middle of the parking lot. Thank goodness the lot is empty and everyone else is long gone and unable to witness my driving out of the parking lot with the hatch open dropping bags of potting soil.

Potty Words Extended

Oh my, the potty words have evolved into "bad" words. Mason had a play date with my good friend Anne and her son Sam. Mason and Sam were playing and Mason repeatedly kept saying "Damn It". According to Anne, Sam kept telling Mason that it was a bad word and to stop saying it, but Mason kept saying it over and over. Anne finally intervened and told Mason that we don't use that word, and he listened and stopped saying it. I have never heard him use that word at home. Isn't it funny he decided to try a new word out, and I am not around to use my great parenting skills. Anne got to use hers. After Anne filled me in on the events and we went home Mason and I had a talk about saying that word. I originally called it a potty word and explained it is a word we don't use. Mason told me he understood and apologized for using it, and then immediately asked since it was a potty word if he could still use it in the bathroom. I then had to explain that it wasn't a word we used ever and not even in the bathroom. Our potty words are still used only in the bathroom, but we now have bad words we don't use ever.
Fast forward a few days later when Mason looks at me straight faced and asked if he could use the word "crap". "Mom is crap a potty word?" We then had to add another word to our bad word list we don't ever say.

Hazards

I now understand why they say don't leave plastic alone with children. Again, I don't understand why we buy children toys. In this case I do understand not to give plastic to children, but toys actually came in this container. Do you see the child playing with the toys, nope the container was more inviting.

Wish from the Stars

I am not sure what Mason has watched or read or if he came up with this idea on his own. He has started wishing on the stars and when I returned from my trip I got him a Batman toy. He looked at me and told me it was exactly what he has been wishing for.

Locked Door

Accident? Freudian Slip? The kids went outside to play and I locked the door behind them without realizing it. I had no idea I did it until they were knocking on the back door when they were ready to come back in. This only puts me higher on the list for the un-mother of the year award.

Mason Thoughts

Mason and I were looking at the art hanging on Bryson's walls. It is the hand and foot prints we did for each baby when they were born. Mason's pictures only has hands on it. The others have a combination of baby feet and either our hands or feet. Mason asked me why he didn't have any feet on his. Before I could get an answer out he asked me "Is is because I didn't have any feet then?" Shows you how little minds work and always giving me a smile.
He also hasn't learned the most commonly used name for short pants. He doesn't call them shorts, he just calls them "short pants". Mom, I am hot so I am going to go put on some short pants.
Also, another one of our friends painted their house and Mason says "Look mom, they got a new house."
I could go on and on and I need to get better about writing them down, because I probably get a daily dose of something humorous every day!

I Lobe You

Mason is starting to read and sounding out his own words when he writes in a card. We were signing our Valentines Day cards and he wanted to write I love you on Rob's. I told him to sound it out and when I came to check on his progress he wrote "I Lobe You." We don't love anyone in our family anymore, we now LOBE them!

Here's Your Christmas Card

Opps, not sure who this was supposed to go to, but I do have proof I tried to send it!
I really shouldn't admit to doing such mindless things, but it did make me laugh when I got it back in the mail. Actually, Rob got it back in the mail and brought it to me as he was laughing at me.
